India Win Kolkata Test; Shami Scare Continues

india kolKolkata, November 8 – India won Kolkata test, the first match of Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell series, by an innings and 51 runs. India marked mammoth victory in Eden Gardens putting up best performances in front. Possibility of its winning increased as soon as India put a total of 453 runs on the score board. The morning session was welcomed stupendously by R Ashwin who played a brilliant knock of 124 runs. Besides, playing ahead of 127 runs made on Thursday, Rohit made a total of 177 runs from 301 balls. Even though he did not touch the mark of 200 runs, he won millions of hearts.

R Ashwin Smashes Ton – To accompany Rohit Sharma in the best possible way and to give a halt to frequent falling wickets, Ravichandran Ashwin played a beautiful innings of 124 runs from 210 balls. The fearless batting style of the youngster helped him to establish as an intelligent batsman in both Test matches as well as One-Day Internationals. Shane Shillingford was the highest wicket taker amongst West Indies squad, getting 6 wickets from 167 runs. Permaul also grabbed 2 wickets of 67 runs.

While chasing the total, West Indies lost their wickets early. They were all out on just 168 runs. M Shami remained a threat for West Indies batsmen as he got 5 wickets of just 47 runs. Besides, Ashwin did well with the ball too, getting 3 wickets from just 46 runs. B Kumar got just a wicket in the form of Chris Gayle who was caught by Virat Kohli at the score of 33 runs. Bravo and Powell were the leading scorer for West Indies who made 37 runs of 78 balls and 36 runs of 83 balls, respectively.

M Shami with 9 wickets attained the second spot in the chart of ‘Best match by a bowler on debut for India’. Narendra Hirwani with 16 wickets remained at the leading rank in the chart. India decimated West Indies in 199th test match of Master Blaster. Now in the two test match series, India lead by 1-0 crushing Windies. Jagmohan Dalmiya, Mamta Banerjee and former Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly honored Sachin on his last match in Kolkata. Rohit Sharma received ‘Man of the Match’ award for smashing a ton in debut match.
